I thought I enjoyed this series after reading the first book. Then I thought I really liked this series after the second. After the third book I think it's safe to say I love this series.
The characters jump off the page, stand next to you and find a way into your heart. You resonate with Grace. You ache for Max. You adore Jace's protectiveness over his new family. You feel for Casper. You celebrate with Eden. You care with Ingrid and John.
Not since the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson have I felt so connected to a family in a series of novels.
What I love about this book is it is Grace and Max's story. However, with the Christiansen's, no one is ever alone. So we are able to see the whole family. But in this novel, Grace and Max come alive.
These two people seem like two ingredients that shouldn't work. That can't work. The question is what happens when you throw out your recipe, and instead realize that God's already working on something amazing.
Would I Recommend This Book? Yes!
I have to admit a bit of a bias with these novels. Ms. Warren is from my home state of Minnesota. Deep Haven is like a northern town I've been to, and the stories have often talked about places I've visited or know of. In addition, a chunk of this book takes place in the Honolulu area, a place I vacationed.
However it is the author's writing that truly makes these books come alive. I feel like I know this family, or perhaps they are a family I REALLY wish I could meet.
One of my favorite lines:
"I think everyone who gets to have dreams should reach for them. I want to help you reach." - Max
My rating: 4 / 5 stars.
