Book Review: Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio by Serena Miller

Serena Miller's novel Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio is the story of Rachel Troyer.  Rachel works as a policewoman in Sugarcreek, this allows her to be close to her three elder Aunts who run an inn out of their farmhouse.
Tourists often visit the area, but Rachel quickly realizes that Joe Matthews isn't a tourist.  When the disheveled man arrives on her aunts' doorstep with his young son Rachel is suspicious of him and his motives.  Wanting only to keep her aunts safe, can Rachel uncover Joe's secret?  Even while her family fights a growing affection for him?

My thoughts: I really liked the Troyer Aunts.  I could just picture spending time with Lydia, Bertha and Anna; I know I would enjoy every moment.  I connected with Rachel's desire to protect her family, always watching out for them and concerned for their welfare.

It's a good story, but didn't hold surprises for me, which looking back I realize is just what I needed.  I had spent time trying to connect with Rachel, invest in the welfare of little Bobby, relate to the Aunts, figure out Joe.  I felt the resolution at the end of the story to be a bit predictable but still enjoyable.  I did really like the VERY end of the book but don't want to spoil it.  The question as you read is can Love Find You in Sugarcreek, Ohio?  I didn't fall in love, but I did fall in like!

My ancestry is rooted in Swiss Anabaptist origins, similar to that of the Amish.  When I read about the life of the Amish I often feel connected to it.  While I did enjoy this book, it didn't pull me in like other novels set among the Amish have.

From my knowledge the depiction of Amish life was well done, and I enjoyed the peeks into the Amish culture.  The town of Sugarcreek was inviting and sounded like an enjoyable place to visit.

Would I recommend this book?   Yes I would.  If a solid group of believable characters, a great setting and a traditional plot are what you are looking for then this would be a book for you.  There was a little romance, a little mystery all while walking the line between the Amish and the English.  If any of those things sound like something you enjoy, then check out Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio and catch the movie premiering next weekend.

My Rating: 3.5/5 stars.

5 stars= A definite favorite, will be re-read again and again, and permanently placed on my bookshelf.
4 stars= A pretty good book, one that will be re-read eventually, placed on the bookshelf.
3 stars= An average to good book, that may or may not be read again, probably has a place in my library.
2 stars= A not liked book, I wouldn't read it again, and wouldn't have a place in my library.
1 star = A book I really didn't enjoy, wouldn't read again, would not keep in my library.)
